Too much email on monday morning?

I find Sunday is the one day a week people don't expect me to answer email--so I don't. Of course I pay for it on Monday morning when several hundred messages come tumbling down into my email program.

How do you deal with all that email? Here are some tips I find helpful:

1. Resist the temptation to spend lots of time on a long message. Most customers are just as busy as we are and are likely to read the first few lines and quit. Try to get your main points distilled into a message about as long as this paragraph.

2. Got ten people wanting to know same thing? Write your answer once, then copy and paste it into replies for the others. A line of customization at the beginning will keep your note from looking canned.

3. Put your most popular information on web pages and autoresponders (I find the free ones at sendfree.com are perfect for this). You can write, "Thanks for your point. I have more info on that at xxx@sendfree.com."

In the end, know that so much of the Internet is automated that customers REALLY appreciate it when they get a personal email from you. The time you spend typing messages could be your best marketing investment.
